Forum speed.

I've had a few reports of the site being slow and sluggish, which I was totally unable to replicate myself, until I used Internet Explorer.
How's the site speed for you?
Please let me know and also what broswer you are using. Eg, Firefox, Opera or Internet explorer.
Thanks.

It was a bit slow a couple of days ago to initially load the first page, but after that, it was quite fine. No problems whatsoever now though, using Firefox. Now that I tried using it with IE6, it's slow as dry poop.

On my laptop I use Firefox (v3.0.3). The site is only slow for the initial connection to the server after that it is fine so long as I do not try to open any new tabs (in other words: if I simply refresh the page it is very quick, almost instant, however, if I try to create a new tab to look at another page the site becomes very sluggish again). Only my mobile phone (browser unknown as I am a noob) does the website time out.
This isn't really a problem - only a mild inconvenience as I am an impatient soul

I use Firefox 3.0.10.
I didn't notice any pattern myself. Sometimes my internet connection itself is slow, I didn't have such distinct behavior to think it's the site, with rare exceptions.
Nor can I reproduce the behavior Mazguul pointed, links in new tabs load just fine. As for initial loading, I'm not fully sure what counts like it, as I don't close Firefox for ... weeks or something of the kind, and am always logged in.
---
Quick tests:
- access with Internet Explorer 6.0, extremely slow, the first two pages (the home page and some link at a topic). After that, seems okay.
- access with Opera 9.24: immediate load of the home page, it seems. The link I accessed after that (the most recent topic): slow. About a dozen other links, very fast. (as I said, my internet connection may have a hiccup)
- or not, as the above behavior with Opera seems reproducible.
- yet, browsing with Opera I found another moment (not 'initial', apparently random) when the page I was visiting loaded extremely slow.
- the pages who were loaded extremely slowly: checked them, they were always pages where all links have PHPSESSID explicitely sent, that is, all links in these pages looked like:
http://orcsoftheredblade.co.uk/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=995c8b210e0fc6aac287f07e41db870a&topic=1791.msg18923;topicseen#new
and so on.
The opposite doesn't seem true (sometimes a page with explicite php session ids is loaded quickly).
---
It happened with Firefox once too, to have suddenly the home page very slowly loaded. The page looked the same as noted: full of explicit php session ids.

Opera. It happened to have the "slow loading" of a page, whose's links didn't contain session ids. However, even then, the links in recent topics (and only them, this time) were formatted differently than usual, like:
http://orcsoftheredblade.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=1929.msg18943;topicseen#new
instead of the usual
http://orcsoftheredblade.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,1929.msg18943/topicseen.html#new
. (resulting in them being treated as "not visited" by the browser, while the second would have been visited.)

You're right Claws. There definately is a problem, however, I'm unable to pin down exactly where it currently lies. I'll keep you posted.
